[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Heo Seong-mu, mayor of Changwon City, Gyeongnam, visited the Seongsan District Election Commission on the 26th and registered as a preliminary candidate for the Changwon mayor from the Democratic Party of Korea in the nationwide local elections scheduled for June.
Mayor Heo said, "I have done my best to revitalize Changwon, which had fallen into a rusted city trapped in the swamp of stagnation over the past four years," and added, "Now, the results are appearing as concrete figures signaling a V-turn in the Changwon economy."
He expressed his ambition, saying, "Based on the achievements of the past four years, I am once again tying my shoelaces and presenting my candidacy to the citizens to complete the great leap forward of Changwon and seek re-election."
Mayor Heo stated, "I will devote all my efforts to making Changwon a smart city leading into the future, Masan a harmonious and dignified cultural city, and Jinhae a Northeast Asia logistics-centered maritime city," and added, "I will definitely return to create a clean city where saltwort returns, a prosperous city with many jobs attracting young talents, a city good for raising children, and a comfortable city for the elderly to live in."
With Mayor Heo’s registration as a preliminary candidate, the first deputy mayor, Ahn Kyung-won, will act as the authority and manage the city administration.
Mayor Heo Seong-mu is scheduled to make an official declaration of candidacy on the 27th at the 3·15 Haeyang Nuri Park, where he will announce his key pledges and determination for the re-election challenge.
