Police Raid 4 Departments at Suwon City Hall: Why?

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The police conducted a search and seizure at Suwon City Hall in Gyeonggi Province, drawing attention to the background of the investigation.

The Violent Crime Investigation Unit of the Southern Gyeonggi Police Agency deployed about 10 investigators to four departments, including the Urban Planning Division of Suwon City Hall, at around 9:50 a.m. on the 26th to carry out the search and seizure.

During the search and seizure, which lasted about 5 hours and 30 minutes, the police secured the list of urban committee members, meeting minutes, and review materials.

It is reported that the police received a tip-off that some urban committee members accepted bribes during the land-use change process of the district unit plan in the Suwon area in 2015.

Urban committee members are considered public officials (deemed as such), and if the suspicion of receiving money or valuables is proven true, they will be subject to bribery charges.

The police plan to summon suspects once the analysis of the seized items is completed.
