[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Choi Chi-hyun, a prospective candidate for Gwangsan District Mayor and former Blue House administrative officer under President Moon Jae-in, declared the vision for the 8th term of Gwangsan District on the 26th as a ‘Friendly Community City’ and announced the core tasks and the ‘New Deal 7’ to support it.
Candidate Choi stated, “I will cultivate the 8th term of Gwangsan District into a ‘Friendly Community City,’ turning an era of crisis into an opportunity and creating a model in the region that leads the energy transition and digital transformation.”
As a solution to the climate crisis, Choi proposed ‘a good relationship between people and the environment,’ and as a solution to the expected mass layoffs and deepening polarization due to the 4th Industrial Revolution, he suggested ‘a good relationship between people.’ He said he would establish ‘good relationships’ through citizen autonomy and governance, laying the foundation for 100 years of prosperity in Gwangsan.
As a core task for the ‘Friendly Community City,’ Candidate Choi said he would promote the formation of the public-private-academic governance body, the ‘Gwangsan Future 100 Years Committee.’ Furthermore, he emphasized the establishment of a dedicated department directly under the district mayor to support and promote governance.
This is to propose governance-based solutions for major pending issues that will determine the future of Gwangsan District and the region, such as the relocation of Gwangju Airport, development around Gwangju Songjeong Station, and the settlement of future local industries.
He raised his voice, saying, “Although outstanding individuals such as the district mayor and members of the National Assembly can propose solutions, the more important the issue, the more experts and the local community should deliberate to prepare a blueprint.”
He added, “By consolidating regional capabilities through governance and presenting a vision through democratic procedures, not only can social costs and conflicts be reduced during the project implementation process, but the project can also proceed with broad citizen participation.”
To support the ‘Friendly Community City,’ he also presented the seven major pledges called the ‘Pleasant New Deal 7 to Make Young Gwangsan More Innovative.’
Specifically, these include ▲ citizen autonomy that turns crisis into opportunity ▲ closer rivers for better health and happiness ▲ carbon neutrality starting from the public sector ▲ steadily increasing living culture and respectful infrastructure ▲ guaranteeing the right to live with dignity ▲ support for COVID-19 daily life recovery ▲ leveraging the advantages of a mixed urban-rural and multicultural city as regional resources.
Candidate Choi said, “I will use the skills recognized by Gwangsan District, the Blue House, and the central government, as well as my ability to foster good relationships between people, for the better life of Gwangsan citizens. I will do my best for Gwangsan District to be a city where neighbors live in harmony and decide the city’s future together, a city where citizens protect and enjoy beautiful rivers and mountains, and a city that wisely adjusts new technologies to serve people.”
