[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Son Seonhee] The World Bank (WB) Korea Office announced on the 27th that it will hold an online seminar at 9 a.m. on the 27th to share the results of the "Case Study on Korea's Experience in Preventing and Responding to Infectious Diseases including COVID-19," the Ministry of Economy and Finance announced on the 27th.
Sponsored by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, this seminar was organized to prepare a policy recommendation report in the health and medical fields targeting developing countries through Korea's case study and to carry out mid- to long-term technical support cooperation.
Since the end of 2020, the World Bank has selected five countries including Korea, Mongolia, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Fiji to analyze exemplary cases in Asia to prevent and respond to future infectious diseases in developing countries.
In his opening remarks at the seminar, Shin Junho, Director General of Development Finance at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, stated, "Based on lessons learned from past infectious diseases and COVID-19, Korea has experienced the importance of rapid intervention, bold fiscal investment, and close cooperation with the international community in times of infectious disease crises." He added, "Through the Korea Trust Fund and the Korea Office within the World Bank, we are ready to share Korea's related knowledge and experience and support crisis prevention activities in developing countries, and we will continue to cooperate with the World Bank and developing countries in the future."
The seminar will be held in three sessions. The first session will introduce the World Bank's COVID-19 support and response status, the second session will present research results from Korea and Mongolia, and the final session will feature a panel discussion composed of Asian experts based on content that can be shared with developing countries.
The Ministry of Economy and Finance stated, "We will actively share Korea's health-related development experiences and lessons with developing countries through continuous cooperation with the World Bank," and added, "We plan to contribute to helping developing countries establish prevention and response systems for future health crises such as infectious diseases and promote sustainable economic and social development."
