[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] The Presidential Transition Committee strongly criticized the North Korean military parade marking the 90th anniversary of its establishment on the 26th, stating that "over the past five years, North Korea has outwardly claimed peace and dialogue while actually focusing on developing means to threaten the Korean Peninsula."
Won Il-hee, the chief deputy spokesperson of the Transition Committee, held a briefing at the committee's press conference hall in Tongui-dong, Seoul, and made these remarks. He mentioned, "North Korea staged the shape of a nuclear warhead during the event and unveiled a large number of various nuclear delivery systems, promoting the weapons and nuclear capabilities necessary for the five major tasks claimed by North Korea."
Kim Jong-un, Chairman of the State Affairs Commission, attended the parade and delivered a speech, saying, "Be thoroughly prepared to activate deterrence at any time," and "Any force attempting military confrontation will be annihilated," according to the Korean Central News Agency.
Deputy Spokesperson Won emphasized, "North Korea's nuclear and missile threats have become a grave and realistic threat to us, so it is an urgent task to acquire the capability to deter them," adding, "The newly launched Yoon Suk-yeol administration will strengthen the South Korea-U.S. alliance and promptly complete the Korean-style three-axis system capabilities to respond to North Korea's threats. We plan to simultaneously develop military technological superiority and weapons systems."
Regarding whether the president-elect received reports from the military about the parade, Deputy Spokesperson Won said, "I understand that rapid and accurate information sharing on the situation on the Korean Peninsula and security matters is ongoing."
