[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Lee Jeong-seon, a preliminary candidate for Gwangju Superintendent of Education, sent congratulatory remarks on the 26th at the opening ceremony of ‘Gwangju Arts Middle School,’ the nation’s first public arts middle school, and promised to expand support for aspiring artists.


The candidate said, “With the opening of an arts middle school in Gwangju, the cultural and artistic center, I hope that cultural and artistic education befitting the city of art, Gwangju, will flourish even more,” adding, “We will strengthen popular arts education at schools so that Gwangju students can grow into cultural citizens through arts education, and expand support for arts major students to grow into professional artists.”


He also pointed out the burden of private education costs due to separate practical training for high school students majoring in arts, stating, “We will hire top-level instructors at the Arts Gifted Education Center to operate an expert course for high school students, and improve the treatment of instructors at arts middle and high schools to enhance the quality of classes and drastically reduce private education costs.”


To revitalize various cultural and arts education and support budding artists, the candidate proposed ▲expanding the Arts Gifted Education Center for discovering arts prodigies (from the current 1 center to 3 centers) ▲support for low-income arts prodigies ▲expanding arts education support for students with disabilities ▲operating joint cooperative education courses tailored to arts majors under the high school credit system ▲developing and operating beginner expert experience programs and school arts education curricula by arts major ▲establishing various departments such as practical music and performance departments in arts middle and high schools ▲increasing instructor fees for arts major practical instructors.


Finally, he emphasized, “In this era of culture and arts, Hallyu and K-Culture are leading the world,” and added, “We will do our best to revitalize various cultural and arts education and support budding artists so that Gwangju students can lead K-Culture.”
