Kim Jae-hyun, deputy spokesperson of the PTC, stated at a briefing held on the 26th at the PTC press conference room in Tongui-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, "The national agenda under review by the Transition Committee for the professional sports sector includes ▲improving the support and development system for national representatives ▲diversifying the development system for student athletes ▲expanding support for the operation of corporate teams ▲systematizing welfare support for sportspeople."
Deputy Spokesperson Kim added, "We will develop the welfare policy, which has so far focused on medalists, into universal welfare targeting all sportspeople," and announced plans to significantly expand customized welfare projects such as sportspeople’s mutual aid projects and employment and start-up support. He also promised to increase the budget for sportspeople’s welfare projects, which currently remains at about 1.5% of the revenue from sports promotion lottery tickets, up to 5%.
Kim said, "To respond to the crisis in professional sports caused by the decline in the school-age population and the insufficient base of unpopular sports, President-elect Yoon has proposed seven major pledges in the professional sports sector to innovate the sports system," adding, "These were prepared after reviewing the valuable opinions of numerous sportspeople and sports organizations in the field."
During his candidacy, President-elect Yoon proposed ▲supporting a multi-source development system for professional sports ▲revitalizing professional sports through expanded support for corporate team operations ▲improving sportspeople’s welfare and creating jobs through the establishment of a 'Sportspeople’s Mutual Aid Association' ▲strengthening institutional support to activate sports sponsorship ▲expanding sports finance and strengthening support for the sports community ▲establishing an effective sports human rights issue reporting and handling system ▲and reexamining the Sports Innovation Committee recommendations that do not reflect the realities of the sports community.
