[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] In the past week, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases among students in Seoul was 9,368. This is the first time this semester that the number of student cases has fallen below 10,000.


According to the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education on the 26th, the number of confirmed cases among students and staff from the 18th to the 24th was 10,467.


The number of confirmed student cases was 9,368, a decrease of 7,446 compared to the previous week. The number of confirmed staff cases was 1,099, down 895 from a week earlier.


The weekly number of confirmed student cases in Seoul has been declining for five consecutive weeks. The number of confirmed cases over the past three weeks were ▲55,419 ▲40,388 ▲28,366 respectively.


The proportion of confirmed cases in the Office of Education compared to Seoul city over one week is 10.9%, down 0.9 percentage points from the previous week.


The incidence rate of confirmed cases per 10,000 students was 103.2, a decrease from 184.0 the previous week.


By school level, elementary students had the highest rate at 120.3, followed by middle school students at 103.7, high school students at 84.6, and kindergarten at 61.2.

No schools in Seoul conducted remote classes for all grades, and 38 schools held partial in-person classes.


Among 2,126 schools, 2,075 schools (97.6%) conducted full in-person classes.


By school level, the rates were highest in kindergartens (99.5%), high schools (99.1%), middle schools (96.1%), and elementary schools (95.4%) in that order.


The number of students attending in-person classes was 846,667, which is 95.8% of the total 883,747 students in Seoul’s kindergartens, elementary, middle, high, special, and various schools.
