[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] Micro-mobility platform specialist company 'MyB' and 'Coactors,' known for the quiet M Taxi, along with the nonprofit organization Sarang Nanum Yeondae, which promotes projects for marginalized groups, are jointly advancing the 'Quiet Safe Taxi' project.
The Quiet Safe Taxi is a shared platform service that helps female passengers safely return home from major subway stations and bus stops between 7 PM and midnight (planned). The taxi drivers are also female.
MyB and Coactors plan to introduce 50 vehicles within this year, starting a pilot service in Anyang-si, Gyeonggi-do, and gradually expanding the service nationwide to ensure women's safe return home.
MyB and Coactors revealed that a survey conducted with 100 female customers using public transportation received a high approval rate of 98%. Notably, the average taxi trip distance is less than 2 km, with over 78% of passengers riding alone, and concerns about ongoing taxi-related crimes targeting women significantly influenced the demand.
The ultra-compact electric vehicle MyB is a two-seater with an average driving range of 100 km per charge, making it fully suitable as a last-mile (under 8 km) dedicated safe taxi. It also offers ample trunk space for carrying luggage without any inconvenience.
Kim Jong-bae, CEO of MyB, said, "I have an adult daughter, and it is true that I feel uneasy when she returns home late at night," adding, "I expect that the eco-friendly ultra-compact electric vehicle will safely transport passengers from public transportation terminals to their doorstep."
Song Min-pyo, CEO of Coactors, stated, "We will actively participate in creating a safe society by leveraging the successful service platform of the Quiet M Taxi, which we have developed together with people with disabilities." Seo Guk-hyun, CEO of the nonprofit Sarang Nanum Yeondae under the Ministry of Public Safety and Security, said, "Together with Coactors, we will focus on creating jobs for marginalized youth in each region and fostering bright local growth through coexistence."
