LG CNS announced on the 26th that it has newly established the ‘Language AI LAB (Artificial Intelligence Research Institute).’ The ‘Language AI LAB’ is an organization that researches AI that understands human speech and text, developing AI services such as AI customer centers and chatbots.
With the establishment of the ‘Language AI LAB,’ LG CNS has formed four major AI research institutes, including the existing ‘Vision AI LAB,’ ‘Data AI LAB,’ and ‘AI Engineering LAB.’
The ‘Language AI LAB’ will advance technologies such as AI Contact Centers (AICC) and chatbots provided to client companies. The AI Contact Center refers to an AI-based customer center. LG CNS built the AI Contact Center for Woori Bank last year.
LG CNS developed and publicly released ‘KoQuAD,’ a Korean standard dataset considered a textbook for AI training. Following the creation of the AI textbook, the ‘Language AI LAB’ will research and develop methods to efficiently train AI using the textbook.
LG CNS has also commercialized 'multimodal' technology that combines language AI and vision AI technologies responsible for the visual domain. Using language AI, it implements the voice and sentences of virtual consultants, and with vision AI, it virtualizes real people, applying multimodal technology to AI banker services at unmanned branches of financial companies.
The research outcomes produced by the LG CNS AI research institutes are commercialized by the ‘AI Business Division.’ LG CNS has deployed about 800 AI and data specialists across research institutes and business organizations. Based on research results, it plans to accelerate ‘AI Everywhere,’ covering industries such as manufacturing, finance, distribution, logistics, telecommunications, education, and healthcare.
Additionally, LG CNS operates ‘AI Discovery’ to provide AI LAB’s research achievements to customers. ‘AI Discovery’ is a program where LG CNS spends six weeks with customers preparing to adopt AI, analyzing their business processes, and discovering AI application points and new AI business opportunities.
Lee Ju-yeol, Senior Executive Director and head of the D&A Research Institute overseeing LG CNS’s four major AI LABs, stated, “We will specialize AI technologies by expert domains to present customers with new AI-based experiences.”
