[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] The Korea-Japan Policy Consultation Delegation dispatched by President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol will meet with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on the morning of the 26th.
According to Kyodo News, the meeting between Prime Minister Kishida and the delegation is expected to take place at the Prime Minister's Official Residence that morning.
The delegation is scheduled to deliver a letter from President-elect Yoon to Prime Minister Kishida. The letter is known to contain the new government's commitment to improving Korea-Japan relations.
NHK reported, "Considering the delegation's position that resolving issues between the two countries requires diplomatic efforts from both sides, they plan to directly discuss and observe what kind of response the Korean side will take going forward during the meeting."
Additionally, the delegation is expected to invite Prime Minister Kishida to President-elect Yoon's inauguration ceremony scheduled for the 10th of next month. If Prime Minister Kishida attends the inauguration, it will be the first time a Japanese prime minister has done so since the inauguration of President Lee Myung-bak in 2008.
