[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] Former Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Kim Dong-yeon has been confirmed as the Democratic Party's candidate for Gyeonggi Province governor in the June 1 local elections.
The Democratic Party Central Election Commission announced on the 25th that former Deputy Prime Minister Kim secured a majority vote (50.67%) in the Gyeonggi governor primary, confirming his candidacy without a runoff.
The Democratic Party Election Commission held the Gyeonggi governor primary over four days starting from the 22nd, involving former Deputy Prime Minister Kim, Representatives Ahn Min-seok and Cho Jung-sik, and former Suwon Mayor Yeom Tae-young, with voting split 50% among party members and 50% among the general public.
Meanwhile, Yang Seung-jo, the current governor, was confirmed as the Democratic Party candidate for Chungnam governor, and Heo Tae-jeong, the current mayor, was confirmed as the candidate for Daejeon mayor.
