In the case of the hardliners in the Democratic Party of Korea, they are demanding a more original bill processing if the mediation plan is reconsidered.
On the 25th, about 20 members including Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Yong-min demanded the original bill processing of the Geomsu Wanbak law.
Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Seung-won said at a press conference, "Since the People Power Party first broke the mediation agreement, the legislation of the Prosecution Normalization Act (Geomsu Wanbak law) should proceed according to the original bill accepted by the Democratic Party that accepted the Speaker’s mediation plan," adding, "Now is not the time to regress history with a moderate compromise and neglect our era’s responsibilities."
Lawmaker Jung Cheong-rae asked, "Who urged to break the Speaker’s mediation agreement unanimously approved at the People Power Party’s caucus meeting?" and questioned, "Will People Power Party lawmakers succumb to a single word from President-elect Yoon?" He said, "If the People Power Party intends to break even the mediation agreement that the Democratic Party was dissatisfied with, it is clear that the Democratic Party will have no choice but to forcibly process the original bill alone."
After the press conference, they also visited National Assembly Speaker Park Byeong-seok to demand the original bill processing.
This movement stands out as it contradicts the approach of the party leadership.
On the same day, Democratic Party Floor Deputy Leader Jin Seong-jun held a press conference and said, "If the Legislation and Judiciary Committee proceeds with the review, the mediation plan will be the center (of discussion)," adding, "Although many prosecution reform-related bills have been submitted to the Legislation and Judiciary Committee, it is difficult to reach an agreement between the ruling and opposition parties."
