Hwang Chun-ja, a preliminary candidate for Yongsan District Mayor from the People Power Party, stated in a press release on the 24th, "Starting today, I will begin a hunger strike, risking my life," and has been conducting a hunger strike in protest of her elimination from the primary election.

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] Hwang Chunja, a preliminary candidate for the Yongsan District Mayor from the People Power Party, was transported to a hospital while protesting after being eliminated in the party primary.
According to a spokesperson for candidate Hwang, at 7 a.m. on the 25th, Hwang's aide found Hwang collapsed inside a tent in front of the People Power Party headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, and transported her to Mokdong Ewha Womans University Hospital. However, since Hwang did not regain consciousness, she was transferred again to Severance Hospital in Sinchon. Currently, Hwang is in the emergency room and has not regained consciousness.
A spokesperson for Hwang said, "It appears she made an extreme choice due to elimination from the primary."
In a statement, Hwang said, "Starting today, I will begin a hunger strike risking my life," and had been conducting a hunger strike protest in front of the party headquarters since the afternoon of the previous day, setting up a tent to protest her elimination from the primary.
