[Gokseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Cha Jong-sun] Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 25th that it has embarked on reducing fine dust and responding to carbon neutrality through tree planting and forest management projects.

The county is investing 800 million KRW in tree planting projects over a forest area of 135 hectares.

They plan to plant 380,000 trees by selecting economically valuable and fine dust-reducing species such as hinoki cypress, lily, and lacquer tree.

Through this, they expect to produce high-quality timber and maximize fine dust reduction, thereby enhancing the public and economic value of the forest.

Additionally, by encouraging residents to participate in tree planting, the policy aims to raise awareness of the importance of forests.

For the forest management project, they will carry out activities such as weeding in afforestation areas, vine removal, and tending to large and young trees in the existing 1,400-hectare forest.

The project aims to increase the survival rate of afforested trees and create a multilayered mixed forest of conifers and broadleaf trees to build a more effective fine dust reduction forest.

A county official stated, “Since most of the forest is privately owned, active interest and participation from forest owners are necessary. We accept project applications at any time, so forest owners are encouraged to apply for tree planting and forest management projects whenever they wish.”
