[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] "Hooray~~~"
A district head in Seoul recently blurted this out to a reporter.
When asked why, he explained as follows.
He said, "If a certain district council member had made things difficult over the past four years, the district office staff are all cheering 'hooray' now that this council member has been dropped from the recent nomination."
Such things happen in any district office.
Of course, it's not just council members.
Sometimes the district mayor makes things difficult for the district executives. Also, district council members sometimes make things difficult for department heads and directors at every turn.
It seems this council member falls into such a case.
They not only scrutinize and criticize during the district council's audit but also during standing committee activities, making things hard.
These circumstances seem to be immediately conveyed to the local party chairperson. One department head said, "Since there are only a few district council members, their activities seem to be directly reported to the local party chairperson," adding, "It seems this is why this council member was dropped from the nomination."
In this district office, even during the 6th local government term, a council member who made things difficult drew complaints from the district office staff.
This council member, being a senior in the district office, was even more disliked. Although this member quietly disappeared after failing to receive a nomination, they are still talked about among the staff.
It is a common view that among district mayors and council members who have gained a bad reputation among district office staff, few have succeeded, which elected officials should take to heart at least once.
These days, each political party is busy selecting candidates for district mayor, city council, and district council ahead of the June 1 local elections. For those involved, it looks like a life-or-death battle, and those dropped from nominations will spend days shedding tears in various ways.
However, especially those who were dropped from nominations should show that they accept the evaluation of the past four years as their own karma.
