The People Power Party held an executive meeting and decided to reconsider the National Assembly Speaker's mediation proposal on the Geomsu Wanbak law.
On the 25th, after concluding the executive meeting, Lee Jun-seok, leader of the People Power Party, told reporters, "We confirmed that there are many public concerns regarding the insufficient parts related to public election and public official crimes in this mediation proposal," adding, "Based on this, the common opinion of the executive committee was to allow for reconsideration."
Regarding the reconsideration, Lee expressed a negative view on the Democratic Party interpreting it as a breakdown of negotiations. Earlier, Yoon Ho-jung, emergency committee chairman of the Democratic Party, stated, "The Democratic Party will not tolerate any attempt by the public to break the bipartisan agreement," and "If the People Power Party breaks it, we declare in advance that we will pass the prosecution reform bill in the National Assembly immediately." In response, Lee said, "If the Democratic Party shows a reaction trying to use coercion even to the word 'reconsideration,' the public will view it very negatively."
Lee also said regarding this week's bill processing, "Since we proposed reconsideration, the Democratic Party should cooperate to quickly reconsider."
Kwon Seong-dong, floor leader of the People Power Party, stated that no decision has been made regarding convening a party meeting related to the reconsideration. Kwon said, "Re-convening the party meeting has not been discussed."
