ICT Industry Unanimously Calls for Establishment of Chief Secretary for Science and Technology in Yoon Seok-yeol Government 원본보기 아이콘


[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] The information, communication, and broadcasting industry (hereinafter ICT industry) appealed to the Yoon Suk-yeol administration on the 25th to establish a 'Chief Secretary for Science and Technology' responsible for digital innovation.


Seventeen organizations, including the Korea Software Industry Association, Korea Information and Broadcasting Telecommunications Federation, Software Mutual Aid Association, and Korea IT Service Industry Association, made this announcement through the 'Appeal for Digital Innovation and the Era of Digital Platform Government' on the same day.


In the appeal, the ICT industry stated, "Our country announced an economic vision as a ‘digital hegemony nation’ and presented six practical strategies," explaining, "Advanced science and technology such as fostering the artificial intelligence (AI) industry, developing the software (SW) industry, advanced digital infrastructure (5G, 6G), support for digital convergence industries, cyber safety nets, and nurturing one million digital talents are expected to lead to digital innovation and a digital platform government, raising high expectations for an innovative nation."


They continued, "The effective and swift way to achieve the economic vision is proactive response," emphasizing, "It is necessary to have a government organization that can establish and implement a comprehensive national-level strategy that leverages expertise and diversity across various fields and a strong control tower to coordinate."


They concluded, "We propose the establishment of a 'Chief Secretary for Science and Technology' responsible for digital innovation, and our industry pledges to continuously strive to achieve the ‘digital hegemony nation.’"
