The Marine Corps Investigation Unit announced on the 25th, "We secured the custody of Private A, who deserted overseas on Monday, March 21, and arrested him after repatriation today." They added, "We will strictly take action according to laws and regulations after investigating the circumstances of the desertion."

A, belonging to a Marine Corps unit, left for Poland through Incheon International Airport on the 21st of last month while on leave and then attempted to enter Ukraine. However, entry was denied at the Ukrainian border checkpoint, and the Ukrainian side took A to the Polish border checkpoint in a border city in southeastern Poland.

However, A left the Polish border guard building in the early morning of the 23rd of last month local time, and at one point, his whereabouts were unknown due to lack of contact. Since then, the military and diplomatic authorities have been tracking A's whereabouts and persuading him to return.
