[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] Police have apprehended a man in his 40s suspected of murdering a woman in her 60s in Gangseo-gu, Seoul.

The Gangseo Police Station in Seoul announced that at 12:57 a.m. on the 25th, they arrested the suspect, Park, at a motel located in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province.

Park is accused of killing the victim, Kim, in her 60s, who was found dead with some of her body parts, including hands and feet, bound at an apartment in Deungchon-dong, Gangseo-gu, at 3:46 p.m. on the 22nd.

Subsequently, the police received a verbal opinion from the National Forensic Service indicating suspicion of homicide.

The police identified the suspect by reviewing the on-site closed-circuit television (CCTV), statements from nearby residents, and fingerprints found at the scene. They then tracked Park’s escape route and discovered that after the crime, he repeatedly switched taxis and stayed at motels while fleeing.

According to the police, Park stated in his oral testimony, “I broke in and killed the victim, who I knew as a neighbor, hoping she would have a large amount of money.” It is known that Park committed the crime while struggling to prepare moving and eviction costs from the rental apartment where he lived.

A police official said, “We will investigate the exact motive and circumstances of the crime,” adding, “We plan to prove the charges by investigating the stolen items, analyzing fingerprints, DNA data, and autopsy results from the scene, and will apply for an arrest warrant.”
