[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] Emart is launching a cooling appliance event for a 'refreshing summer.'
Emart announced on the 25th that it will hold a fan discount event from April 28 to May 11. The prepared quantity is a total of 100,000 units, doubling the approximately 50,000 units from the same period last year. This is the largest scale ever for a spring season fan event.
As a representative product, Emart prepared the 'Electroman Standard Fan,' which sold about 28,000 units last year and ranked first in total fan sales at Emart. A discount of 10,000 KRW is offered when purchasing with the event card. In addition, the 'Shinil Standard Fan' and 'Shinil BLDC Seat Fan' are offered with a 10,000 KRW discount when purchased with the event card, and the 'Samsung Circulator' is offered with a 20,000 KRW discount when purchased with the event card.
Air conditioner events will also be held. Until May 8, purchasing LG air conditioners with the event card will provide up to 200,000 KRW in gift certificates, and purchasing the 'LG Whisen Tower' and 'LG 360-degree Air Purifier' together will offer up to a 200,000 KRW discount. When purchasing the Samsung '2022 Wind-Free Gallery Air Conditioner,' a Bespoke Cooker is given as a gift, and purchasing together with Samsung Electronics home appliances offers up to a 700,000 KRW discount. A clearance event selling 500 units of display stock produced in 2020-2021 from Samsung, LG, and Winia at all stores at shock prices will also be held.
Emart's large-scale cooling appliance event before the full onset of the heat is due to the increasing number of consumers seeking fans and air conditioners early. Over the past two weeks (April 8?21), Emart's fan sales increased by 274.0% compared to the same period last year, growing more than threefold. This is the highest growth rate among all Emart home appliances during the same period. Air conditioner sales also increased by 33.6%, greatly surpassing the growth rates of other major appliances such as TVs, refrigerators, and washing machines.
It is interpreted that demand increased as consumers anticipated price increases in cooling appliances due to global inflation issues such as rising raw material prices and prepared in advance. The company also expects that some consumers are concerned about not being able to purchase cooling appliances in time during the heat, as the air conditioner purchase frenzy during the 2018 heatwave was repeated due to supply chain disruptions. According to the 2022 summer climate forecast announced by the Korea Meteorological Administration in February, there is a 50% probability that the average temperature will be higher than normal. This is higher than the probabilities of being similar (30%) or lower (20%).
