[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Nayeon] A poll released on the 24th showed that former Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Kim Dong-yeon leads Kim Eun-hye, a member of the People Power Party, by a margin beyond the margin of error in a virtual gubernatorial race for Gyeonggi Province. This survey is the first public opinion poll conducted after Kim was confirmed as the People Power Party's candidate for governor of Gyeonggi Province.

According to the survey conducted by People Networks Research (PNR) on behalf of New Daily from the 23rd to 24th, targeting 804 men and women aged 18 or older residing in Gyeonggi Province, in a hypothetical one-on-one race, former Deputy Prime Minister Kim received 48.8% support, while Representative Kim received 41.0% support.

The gap between the two candidates is 7.8 percentage points, which is outside the margin of error (±3.5 percentage points at a 95% confidence level).

In recent polls, including the Realmeter survey commissioned by OhmyNews on the 18th-19th (Kim Eun-hye 43.1%, Kim Dong-yeon 42.7%, ±3.4 percentage points at a 95% confidence level), the two candidates were competing within the margin of error, but on this day, former Deputy Prime Minister Kim took a significant lead.

In a three-way race scenario assuming lawyer Kang Yong-seok, whose reinstatement to the People Power Party failed, runs as an independent, former Deputy Prime Minister Kim received 50.2%, Representative Kim 34.0%, and lawyer Kang 8.7% support respectively.

When asked who among the Democratic Party primary candidates is most suitable for governor of Gyeonggi Province, former Deputy Prime Minister Kim received 31.8%, former Suwon Mayor Yeom Tae-young 13.8%, Representative Ahn Min-seok 12.9%, and Representative Cho Jung-sik 6.2% support.

This survey was conducted via automated response telephone (ARS) with 90% mobile and 10% landline calls, and the response rate was 4.0%.
