[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Hwasu Pier, once one of the representative fishing ports of Incheon, has been newly transformed into the "Port of Light."

On the 24th, Incheon City announced that it had completed an infrastructure project to create nighttime scenery at Hwasu Pier in Dong-gu.

The city invested 480 million KRW to install lighting shows, beam projection mapping, illuminated signs, and photo zones. Dong-gu will take over the facilities and begin operations next month.

The operating hours are from 7 PM to 11 PM during the summer season (April to October) and from 6 PM to 10 PM during the winter season (November to March).

This project was promoted to create a retro atmosphere of nighttime scenery that citizens can see and enjoy, brighten the dark surroundings of Hwasu Pier, and restore the vibrant glory of the past.

Hwasu Pier, built during the Japanese colonial period, was popular as the top shrimp-jeot (fermented shrimp) market in the metropolitan area until the 1970s. It is a fishing port with a long history, famous as a collection pier for fish caught near Yeonpyeong and Baengnyeong.

However, it declined due to the shift of commercial districts and the development of new towns.

An official from Incheon City said, "Hwasu Pier, which retains its old charm, has been reborn as a famous spot in Incheon through nighttime scenery production. We hope it will regain its lively past appearance and become a landmark that also helps revitalize the local economy."
