[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Park Hye-ja, a preliminary candidate for Superintendent of Education of Gwangju Metropolitan City, announced on the 24th that she would expand the issuance of Youth ID cards and activate discount systems in celebration of the 59th Law Day.

Candidate Park stated, "The utilization of 'Youth ID cards,' which provide various benefits to young people and have legal validity ensuring identity verification, is low," adding, "We will continuously promote and increase benefits to expand the universal welfare of youth in the Gwangju area."

The Youth ID card is an official identification card issued by the head of a basic local government to youths aged 9 to 18. It is a legally valid ID for youths, similar to a resident registration card.

However, due to insufficient promotion and the existence of student IDs with similar purposes, the issuance rate is relatively low. To revitalize the Youth ID card, Park Hye-ja, the preliminary candidate for Gwangju Superintendent of Education, plans to expand benefits in cooperation with local governments and strengthen promotion.

First, she intends to significantly increase youth benefits through agreements with local governments, including discounts on public transportation, cultural facilities, and leisure facilities.

Additionally, there is a plan to integrate student IDs and Youth ID cards by separately indicating the school. Since student IDs are not issued to youths who do not attend school, causing controversy, there is a demand for measures to activate the Youth ID card.

While student IDs do not have legal validity, Youth ID cards do, so unifying them is more effective administratively.

Candidate Park said, "The Youth ID card, introduced in 2004, has not fulfilled its role," and added, "We will increase benefits and improve the system by unifying it with the student ID to raise the distribution rate."

As the 19th National Assembly member, Candidate Park led the representative proposal of the Regional Balanced Talent Development Act in the Education Committee, opening the door for regional students to be employed in public institutions.

Also, immediately after the Sewol ferry disaster, she proposed partial amendments to laws related to the Sewol ferry (School Health Act, Act on Prevention and Compensation of School Safety Accidents, Elementary and Secondary Education Act), laying the foundation for resolving Sewol ferry issues, including investigation of the truth, compensation and reparation, and government reorganization for public safety.
