[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] The Gyeongsangbuk-do City and County Council Electoral District Delimitation Committee held its third meeting on the 22nd and approved the electoral districts and the number of council members for 23 cities and counties, submitting the results to the governor.

On this day, the committee increased the number of city and county council members from 284 to 288, adding 4 members, and increased the number of electoral districts from the existing 105 to 106.

The number of two-member districts was reduced by one to 68, while the number of three-member districts was increased by two to 37.

There were changes in the boundaries or the number of members in 33 electoral districts across 8 cities and counties.

Before the resolution, the committee conducted in-depth discussions after collecting opinions on the electoral district delimitation from political parties with seats in the National Assembly, city and county councils, and mayors and county heads.

Also, due to delays in the revision of the Public Official Election Act by the National Assembly and the approaching election, the committee adjusted the electoral districts with the direction of minimizing changes to existing districts to prevent confusion among voters and candidates.

The electoral districts and number of council members for city and county councils are subject to ordinance amendments. Once the province submits the ordinance proposal to the provincial council, the Gyeongbuk Provincial Council plans to hold a one-point extraordinary session on the 28th of this month to review the ordinance proposal.
