[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Seoul Facilities Corporation announced on the 25th that it will implement traffic control until May 4th to clean the video equipment used for collecting traffic information on expressways such as Gangbyeonbuk-ro.
The expressways subject to the cleaning work are eight routes: Gangbyeonbuk-ro, Olympic-daero, Naebu Sunhwan-ro, Bukbu Ganseon-ro, Dongbu Ganseon-ro, Seobu Ganseon-ro, Gyeongbu Expressway, and Gangnam Sunhwan-ro.
The cleaning targets are 152 video detection cameras installed on streetlight poles along the expressways, which collect traffic information. The footage captured by these cameras is transmitted in real-time to the Traffic Information Center and broadcasted through the website and traffic electronic signboards on the expressways to show traffic conditions by section. This regular cleaning is conducted to enhance the visibility of the footage and provide reliable information, with additional cleaning performed as needed depending on the quality of the transmitted video.
The corporation will partially control 1 to 2 lanes in the cleaning sections of the expressways from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., conducting work for about 15 minutes each time. Workers must manually clean using aerial work vehicles over 12 meters high, and the work is carried out during daytime to ensure drivers have clear visibility. Citizens traveling through the affected sections are requested to reduce their driving speed.
To ensure the safety of drivers and workers during the operation, the corporation will sufficiently deploy traffic safety facilities and maintain safe distances, while trying to minimize traffic congestion by performing work on the shoulder where possible.
Jeon Ki-seong, Acting Director, said, “We ask for the cooperation and understanding of citizens as unavoidable partial daytime traffic control is implemented,” and added, “The corporation will do its best to enhance the convenience of expressway users by providing high-quality traffic information.”
