[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Former lawmaker Kim Jin-tae has been selected as the People Power Party's candidate for Governor of Gangwon Province.


Jung Jin-seok, chairman of the People Power Party's nomination management committee, announced this during a briefing at the National Assembly on the morning of the 23rd, explaining, "Former lawmaker Kim received 58.29%, while former KBS anchor Hwang Sang-mu received a total of 45.88%, including a 10% bonus for being a political newcomer."


The primary election was held over two days from the 21st to the 22nd, with the results reflecting 50% from valid votes of responsible party members and 50% from public opinion polls targeting the general public.


Former lawmaker Kim, a politician who served two terms representing the Chuncheon district, graduated from Seongsu High School and Seoul National University, and served as the special chairman for Lee Jae-myung's corruption verification during this presidential election.


Before the primary, Kim was 'cut off' due to past remarks related to the May 18 Democratic Uprising and the Buddhist community, but he gained the opportunity to participate in the primary through a hunger strike and a public apology.
