On the 19th, the two organizations signed a business agreement to prevent telecommunication financial fraud and support crime victims.
They promised to implement ▲public awareness activities to prevent telecommunication financial fraud ▲hold meetings to share related issues and cases of damage and arrests ▲expand the awarding of appreciation certificates to contributors to prevention and arrests ▲and promptly establish a mutually active cooperation system when other cooperative issues arise.
Telecommunication financial fraud includes voice phishing using phone calls, smishing which is fraud using text messages, and pharming that steals personal information by directing victims to fake financial institution web pages.
The fund of 10 million won provided by BNK Gyeongnam Bank will be entrusted to the Gyeongnam branch of the Korean Red Cross for efficient management and used to support victims.
The Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency conducts year-round continuous crackdowns on telecommunication financial fraud, and cases requiring tracking of masterminds or managers, as well as multiple victim cases, are transferred to a dedicated team at the provincial police agency for focused investigation.
Last year, together with BNK Gyeongnam Bank, they conducted promotional activities by broadcasting prevention videos using media such as TVs and ATM monitors at over 200 branches nationwide.
Lee Sangryul, chief of the Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency, said, “As victims increasingly withdraw large sums at bank counters due to rapidly changing crime methods, cooperation from financial institutions is necessary,” adding, “We will work together with financial institutions in the province and related organizations to make Gyeongnam safe from telecommunication financial fraud crimes.”
