[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Candidate for Gwangyang Mayor, Lee Yong-jae, announced his campaign promises on "Infant, Child, and Women’s Policies" in a press release on the 21st.
Candidate Lee Yong-jae pledged to expand community conditions suitable for the UNICEF Child-Friendly City higher-level certification by providing continuous and consistent services linked with the project to create neighborhoods ideal for raising children, upgrading both the quantity and quality of services along with the project to create neighborhoods good for children’s education.
Following the comprehensive plan to upgrade projects designated under the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family’s Women-Friendly City designation (2017), Candidate Lee stated that he will continuously focus administrative power to prevent career interruptions caused by childcare and nursing for women, expand women’s social participation, and promote practical gender equality and life-experience-based women’s policies.
He also promised to introduce the Gwangyang City Maternal and Child Health Plus Alpha (+a) Supplementary Benefit system, which will provide supplementary benefits (+a) to cover the gaps in national benefits provided during the stages from fertility to childbirth and child-rearing.
Candidate Lee Yong-jae announced plans to promote the establishment of a public children and women’s specialized hospital in Gwangyang City.
He promised to review the establishment by adding a children and women’s specialized ward to the Gwangyang City public rehabilitation specialized hospital.
Additionally, he emphasized plans to solidify the operation of the Gwangyang City Comprehensive Childcare Support Center by diversifying support programs, ensuring user safety, and securing worker expertise, evaluating the current performance of the Donggwangyang-based Comprehensive Childcare Support Center, and promoting the construction of a second Comprehensive Childcare Support Center.
Candidate Lee Yong-jae pledged, “I will raise Gwangyang’s regional gender equality index to the upper-middle level and elevate satisfaction levels in economic activity, decision-making, education and vocational training, welfare, health, safety, family, and cultural information sectors to the highest level.”
