[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] On the 21st, Joo Ki-hwan, the People Power Party candidate for mayor of Gwangju, held a meeting with the Gwangju Freight Truck Transportation Business Association at his campaign office to listen to current issues related to the freight truck transportation business and pledged to work on improvements.
Choi Moo-jin, chairman of the association, explained, "The treatment of freight truck workers and support for early retirement of freight trucks in the Gwangju area are among the lowest nationwide," adding, "We hope these will be improved to a more realistic level comparable to other regions."
Chairman Choi also stated, "Participation of local businesses in logistics transportation by large corporations based in Gwangju is practically blocked, so we hope the next mayor will open opportunities for local business participation," and urged, "Please complete the public freight terminal early to resolve issues such as overnight parking of freight trucks."
Candidate Joo said, "If I become mayor, I will more closely understand the local situation and actively support it through ordinances if necessary," adding, "I will strive not only for the early completion of the public freight terminal but also to enable local businesses to participate in logistics transportation by large corporations."
