[Hwasun=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Ji-woon] Hwasun-gun, Jeollanam-do, is canceling and postponing local spring festivals to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and ensure the safety of residents.

On the 21st, the county announced that it will completely cancel three festivals: Dongguri Lake Park Spring Festival, Hwacheoksan Azalea Festival, and Baegasan Azalea Festival, and postpone the Dolmen Cultural Festival and Unju Cultural Festival to the second half of the year.

The Dongguri Lake Park Spring Festival, held annually at the end of April, drew admiration from spring visitors to Hwasun with the pink waves of azaleas wrapping around the ridgeline.

The cancellation of the Hwacheoksan Azalea Festival in Doam-myeon, where high mountain azaleas and rapeseed flowers of Cheongyong Village could be seen in May, and the Baegasan Azalea Festival in Baegam-myeon, held alongside the June 25th Memorial Ceremony for war victims and offering historical significance, is regrettable.

The two festivals postponed to the second half of the year will have their hosting decided based on the future spread of COVID-19.

A county official said, “It is regrettable to cancel the local spring festivals again this year, but this decision was made for the safety of residents and tourists. We will prepare more thoroughly so that residents and tourists can safely enjoy the spring festivals next year.”
