[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jin-ho] Kim Ki-nam, Chairman of Samsung Electronics’ Advanced Institute of Technology, will attend the Boao Forum in China. This is his first global event since taking office.

According to the business community on the 21st, Chairman Kim will participate online in the "2022 Boao Forum" held in Hainan, China, from the 20th to the 22nd. The Boao Forum is an event attended by political, governmental, and business figures from various Asian countries and is called the "Asian Davos Forum."

Chairman Kim was appointed as a standing director of the Boao Forum earlier this year, following Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong and Honorary Chairman Kwon Oh-hyun. He is expected to build global networking and explore new business opportunities while serving on the Boao Forum board.

China is the only overseas location where Samsung Electronics operates memory factories. The first plant, completed in 2014, and the second plant, which began operations in 2020, are located in Xi’an. These plants account for about 40% of Samsung Electronics’ NAND flash production.

Meanwhile, this year’s Boao Forum will include participation from Samsung Electronics, SK, Hyundai, and Hanwha. SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, who is active in the advisory committee, will also deliver a congratulatory speech via online video.
