[Asia Economy] Candidate Lee Yong-jae announced a welfare policy for the disabled on the occasion of Disabled Persons Day on the 20th, aiming to promote understanding of the disabled, encourage their rehabilitation motivation, and create an opportunity to improve their welfare.

Candidate Lee Yong-jae stated that to guarantee the mobility rights of the disabled, he will actively respond by introducing a legally mandated number of special transportation vehicles, expanding voucher taxis for non-wheelchair disabled persons, increasing special transportation for people with developmental disabilities, improving bus stops to create a low-floor bus boarding environment, and replacing city buses with low-floor vehicles to socially and sensitively address the mobility rights of the disabled.

He also promised to designate Gwangyang City as a lifelong education city for the disabled and to expand lifelong education projects for the disabled as a policy to guarantee the right to lifelong education for the disabled.

Candidate Lee Yong-jae said, “Above all, I believe that changes to a barrier-free urban environment are necessary. We will remove physical and institutional barriers, implement barrier-free buildings, install convenience facilities in parks, provide customized laundry services that come to the disabled, and reorganize support systems by distinguishing between intellectual and physical disabilities to create jobs for the disabled. We will also guarantee social activities for the disabled through the establishment of social enterprises.”

He added, “I promise to implement policies for the disabled to create a world where we coexist with the disabled in Gwangyang City and to achieve a moving life together.”
