[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] Coway (CEO Lee Hae-seon and Seo Jang-won) announced on the 21st that its 'Nanotrap' filter and direct water purifier have obtained certification for microplastic removal performance from the Water Quality Association (WQA) in the United States.
WQA is an international certification association for the water treatment industry, a non-profit organization responsible for certifying the performance and safety of various water treatment facilities. The products that received microplastic removal certification this time are three types of Nanotrap filters installed in the Noble and Icon water purifiers, as well as 26 direct water purifier models. These filters and purifiers were certified for a 99% removal rate of microplastics sized 0.5 to 1 micrometer.
Coway's Nanotrap filters and direct water purifiers have also been certified by WQA for water purification performance against a total of 94 harmful substances, including residual pharmaceuticals, endocrine disruptors, and hazardous heavy metals, in addition to microplastics. This is said to be the highest number of certified items among domestic direct water purifier types.
A Coway official stated, "Coway secures safety and gains recognition for product excellence through domestic and international certifications for new harmful substances caused by various pollutants," adding, "We plan to further strengthen domestic and international certifications to enhance trust in Coway water purifiers going forward."
