원본보기 아이콘[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] Simmons Bed, a sleep specialty brand, donated 300 million KRW to Samsung Seoul Hospital in celebration of the upcoming Children's Day. Simmons' benevolence, donating 300 million KRW annually since 2020 to support the treatment of pediatric and adolescent patients battling pediatric cancer and severe rare and intractable diseases, marks its third year this year.
In March 2020, when the medical system faced difficulties due to the spread of COVID-19, Simmons signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Samsung Seoul Hospital to help pediatric and adolescent patients with pediatric cancer and severe rare and intractable diseases who might otherwise be neglected.
The donation from Simmons Bed is used to alleviate the burden on patients requiring long-term treatment and to help them become independent, healthy members of society. It will also be used for patients aged 24 and under receiving treatment at Samsung Seoul Hospital for ▲ inpatient treatment costs such as surgery and examinations ▲ outpatient treatment costs such as outpatient visits and tests ▲ purchase of medical aids such as wheelchairs and hearing aids.
Pediatric cancer and severe rare and intractable diseases are illnesses that impose significant economic burdens on patients and their families due to long-term treatment averaging 2 to 3 years and high medical costs. In particular, pediatric and adolescent patients face difficulties in daily life, such as restricted outdoor activities due to low immunity and high risk of infection.
Until last year, Simmons Bed's donations were used for medical expenses for about 70 pediatric and adolescent patients aged 24 and under who required continuous hospitalization and rehabilitation treatment for chronic or severe diseases such as acute leukemia, neuroblastoma, and Pompe disease.
