[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Hyung-gil] The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) plans to hold a meeting of the chairpersons of chambers of commerce nationwide in Busan on the 21st and 22nd, during which President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol and KCCI Chairman Chey Tae-won are scheduled to meet.

According to the business community on the 21st, President-elect Yoon is expected to attend the nationwide chambers of commerce chairpersons' meeting held concurrently during his visit to Busan this week, where he will meet with Chairman Chey, chairpersons of chambers of commerce nationwide, and CEOs of major affiliates of the top 10 conglomerates.

This will be President-elect Yoon's first attendance at a KCCI event. Previously, he met with heads of six economic organizations on the 21st of last month and visited the Korea International Trade Association on the 31st to encourage young trade representatives. The meeting is reported to be attended by Samsung Electronics President Lee In-yong, Hyundai Motor President Gong Young-woon, SK Supex Council SV Chairman Lee Hyung-hee, and LG Corporation President Ha Beom-jong, among others.

The nationwide chambers of commerce chairpersons' meeting is usually held once a year, and this year it will discuss the future vision of the KCCI and current issues facing chambers of commerce nationwide.

Additionally, Chairman Chey is expected to serve as co-chairman of the 2030 Busan World Expo bid committee. It is anticipated that President-elect Yoon will propose the chairmanship to Chairman Chey during their meeting.

Recently, the Busan World Expo bid task force (TF) under the Presidential Transition Committee requested Chairman Chey to take on the role of bid committee chairman, and Chairman Chey is reported to have responded positively.

The transition committee is currently considering placing the Busan World Expo bid committee directly under the president. Chairman Chey is likely to serve as the private sector representative and bid committee chairman, while the government-side chairman is expected to be the Prime Minister.

The business community expects that if Chairman Chey, who leads the KCCI and SK Group, takes on the bid committee chairmanship, the event's successful bid can be achieved. The bid activities for the Busan World Expo, considered one of the world's top three events, have so far been led by the private sector. Centered around Chairman Kim Young-joo, a former Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy and former Korea International Trade Association chairman, CEOs of the top five conglomerates have served as vice chairpersons, conducting promotion and bid activities.
