[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] The number of successful candidates for the 11th Bar Examination has slightly increased compared to last year.
According to the legal community on the 21st, the Ministry of Justice announced that, after deliberation by the Bar Examination Management Committee the previous day, the number of successful candidates for this year's 11th Bar Examination was set at 1,712 (with a total score of 896.8 points or higher). This is an increase of 6 from last year's 1,706 successful candidates.
The pass rate was 53.55% of the total examinees (3,197), slightly lower than last year's 54.06% (out of 3,156). Among this year's law school (11th class) master's degree holders, the pass rate was 72.39%, down from 74.52% for last year's (10th class) graduates.
By gender, among this year's successful candidates, 951 (55.55%) were male and 761 (44.45%) were female. By major, 383 (22.37%) majored in law, while 1,329 (77.63%) were non-law majors.
The Ministry of Justice explained that the number of successful candidates was determined comprehensively considering factors such as the existing number and pass rate of bar exam passers within the range of '75% (1,500) or more of the total enrollment quota,' the purpose of introducing law schools, changes in the number of examinees, supply and demand of legal professionals, the number of legal professionals in major foreign countries, changes in population and economic scale, academic management status, and grading results.
It also added that, to ensure predictability for candidates planning to take the next bar exam (12th), the 12th exam will also be deliberated based on the criteria used for deciding this year's successful candidates.
