[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] On the 20th, Pohang City in Gyeongbuk held a commemorative ceremony organized by the Pohang City Federation of Disabled Persons' Organizations to mark the '42nd Disabled Persons Day.'

The event was attended by about 100 people, including Acting Mayor of Pohang Lee Jang-sik, Chairman of the Pohang City Council Jeong Hae-jong, heads of disabled persons' organizations, and welfare workers for the disabled. The program included the reading of the Disabled Persons Human Rights Charter, commendations for contributors to disabled welfare, congratulatory speeches, and a unified performance by disabled persons' organizations.

This year, 28 individuals were selected and awarded plaques as contributors to disabled welfare, recommended from various fields for being exemplary in overcoming disabilities or for their contributions to the promotion of welfare for the disabled, following a review by the merit evaluation committee.

At the event, 15 disabled persons' organizations in Pohang performed a hand-holding performance to draw attention, symbolizing their decision to unify for the improvement of the rights of about 27,000 disabled persons in the city.

Acting Mayor of Pohang Lee Jang-sik said in his commemorative speech, "I am pleased to be part of this meaningful occasion on Disabled Persons Day," adding, "We will actively strive to create a Pohang where disabled and non-disabled people live together so that disabled residents of Pohang are not marginalized in the local community."
