Democratic Party Accelerates 'Geom Su Wan Bak'... Demands Formation of Agenda Coordination Committee in Legislation and Judiciary Committee

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jin-ho] On the 20th, the Democratic Party of Korea decided to refer the so-called 'Prosecutorial Investigation and Prosecution Separation' bill to the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee's Agenda Coordination Committee.

Eight Democratic Party members of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee and independent lawmaker Min Hyung-bae submitted a request to form the Agenda Coordination Committee regarding the amendments to the Prosecutors' Office Act, the Criminal Procedure Act, and the enactment of the Public Prosecution Office Act in the afternoon. The Agenda Coordination Committee is a body established to discuss agenda items that require reconciliation of differing opinions. It is convened upon the request of at least one-third of the committee members.

Accordingly, Park Kwang-on, chairman of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee, requested the People Power Party to submit the list of members who will participate in the Agenda Coordination Committee by 10 a.m. on the 21st. The committee could be formed as early as tomorrow to begin reviewing the bill.

This move is interpreted as a proactive effort to speed up the bill's processing by convening the Agenda Coordination Committee, while the subcommittee handling the 'Prosecutorial Investigation and Prosecution Separation bill' is at a standstill. The Agenda Coordination Committee will be composed of three Democratic Party members, two People Power Party members, and one independent member from the Legislation and Judiciary Committee. If two-thirds or more approve, the agenda can be passed.
