The drainage improvement project targets lowland farmland areas of 50 hectares or more within agricultural promotion zones to prevent flooding and disaster damage.
Fully funded by the national government, the project expands agricultural production infrastructure necessary to increase farm income, such as drainage pump stations, drainage gate installations, and drainage channel maintenance.
Since last year, the policy has shifted from focusing mainly on rice to establishing a foundation for cultivating other crops in connection with rice to stabilize rice supply and increase self-sufficiency rates.
This year, the province secured 96.9 billion KRW for 7 newly initiated districts and 112.1 billion KRW for 12 basic survey districts.
The newly initiated districts, where basic surveys have been completed, include Buk-myeon in Changwon, Deoko and Geumpyeong in Jinju, Wondong in Yangsan, Agyang in Haman, Jinchang in Changnyeong, and Hadong district in Hadong.
Each district has secured 50 million KRW for detailed design costs, and once the design is completed this year, the project can start early next year.
For the basic survey districts, the Korea Rural Community Corporation plans to establish a basic project plan suitable for the field through a one-year economic feasibility analysis.
The 12 districts include Daesan in Changwon, Sabong in Jinju, Songnim in Sacheon, Sisan in Gimhae, Osan in Miryang, Gamam in Uiryeong, Yucheon in Haman, Gahang in Changnyeong, Goseong in Goseong, Mokdo in Hadong, Hamyang in Hamyang, and Gwangam district in Hapcheon.
Jung Yeonsang, Director of the Agricultural Policy Bureau, said, “We will continue efforts to secure national funds so that benefits can also reach other areas excluded this time, minimizing damage and preventing farmland flooding even during heavy rains.”
