[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Retired public officials from Gwangju Metropolitan City Hall declared their support for Kang Ki-jung, the Democratic Party of Korea's preliminary candidate for mayor of Gwangju, on the 20th.
On the afternoon of the same day, 151 retired public officials from Gwangju City Hall and others held a support declaration ceremony at the Kangchu Camp, stating, "We judged that only the policy vision of preliminary candidate Kang Ki-jung can greatly contribute to the development of Gwangju in line with the current era," and declared their support.
They first pointed out, "Although this local election should be a joyful opportunity to present a vision for regional development, slander and fake news about opposing candidates are rampant online," adding, "As retired public officials who have devoted half a lifetime to public service, we cannot help but feel sorrow."
They continued, "After watching the TV debate hosted by the broadcasting company, we clearly felt that preliminary candidate Kang Ki-jung is fully prepared for the development of Gwangju. We glimpsed his sufficient capability and vision," emphasizing, "Looking at the promotion of metropolitan administration encompassing the Honam region and the regional development plans through the five new economic maps, it is clear who the candidate is that will lead Gwangju's vision by implementing citizen-friendly living policies to resolve citizens' inconveniences."
Finally, they said, "We believe that Kang Ki-jung, a young and prepared mayor in his 50s, will transform Gwangju confidently and swiftly with strong driving force," and added, "We ask that as the mayor of the 8th elected term, he change the lives of citizens and greatly contribute to the administrative development for a new era of Gwangju."
