[Naju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] On the 20th, Naju City in Jeollanam-do announced that it will officially launch the "Cultural Happiness Delivery Kiwoom" project at the end of this month, which directly visits various cultural programs into the daily lives of citizens from all walks of life.
This project provides four cultural programs?'movie screenings,' 'traditional games,' 'story grandmothers,' and 'municipal art troupe performances'?directly to children and elderly residents in culturally marginalized areas who have difficulty enjoying cultural life due to age or regional conditions.
The "Visiting Cinema Project" installs small-scale video facilities in remote village senior centers, village halls, and local children's centers to screen movies that residents want to watch.
Through 40 sessions annually, it promotes cultural enjoyment for village elders who have never been near a theater in their lifetime, as well as job creation through collaboration with local youth cultural groups.
The "Exciting Traditional Games Delivery" project dispatches instructors from the Naju Traditional Games Research Association (Sullae) to senior centers, daycare centers, kindergartens, and other childcare facilities to raise citizens' cultural happiness index.
It aims to spread a healthy play culture that teaches the virtues of community and cooperation to modern people accustomed to digital media culture by providing various traditional game experiences.
Grandmothers carry bundles of stories and visit kindergartens and elementary schools.
Story grandmothers, nurtured through the city's cultural workforce training program, unfold Naju's old tales into fairy tales tailored to children's perspectives.
The rich stories accumulated over many years by the grandmothers break down the communication barriers between generations and become a warehouse of wisdom and lessons for future generations.
The performances of the "Naju Municipal Art Troupe," which unites the Naju Municipal Choir, Gugak (traditional Korean music) group, and Boys and Girls Choir, are not limited to stages illuminated by dazzling lights.
The art troupe sets up anywhere?senior facilities, village halls, cultural centers, public institutions, and schools of all levels?breaking down the boundaries between stage and audience.
With a goal of 20 visiting performances annually through prior reservation, the troupe members and audiences create a culturally happy city through music as a medium.
For prior reservations and inquiries, contact the respective project operators (see below) or the City Hall Culture and Arts Division, or the Eup/Myeon/Dong Administrative Welfare Centers from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays.
A city official said, "Culture is a medium of communication that enhances citizens' quality of life and delivers messages of joy and comfort," adding, "We express our gratitude to the cultural delivery workers who work tirelessly for the cultural happiness of citizens."
