Mokpo Mayor Candidate Park Hong-ryul Declares Independent Candidacy

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-kyung] Park Hong-ryul, a preliminary candidate for Mokpo Mayor in Jeonnam, held a press conference today in front of the Kim Dae-jung Nobel Peace Prize Memorial Hall in Mokpo, declaring his independent candidacy while asserting the unfairness of the Democratic Party's expulsion decision.

Candidate Park argued that the expulsion, which was based on the claim that his legal responses and press releases made for self-defense against sexual harassment accusations constituted secondary harm, is null and void from the outset and an unjust decision by the Democratic Party's emergency committee.

He also emphasized that the Democratic Party has been criticized for its line-up style candidate management, and vowed to protect democracy and lead the election to victory by forming an alliance with like-minded independent candidates against such arbitrary actions.

Meanwhile, members of Park Sa-mo supporting Candidate Park also stated that the sexual harassment accusation is an election manipulation and pledged to ensure Candidate Park's victory.
