[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] On the 20th, Kim Young-deuk, chairman of the Palma Cheongbaek-ri Cultural Foundation and a candidate for the Suncheon mayoral election of the Democratic Party of Korea in the upcoming June 1 local elections, issued a statement in front of the Suncheon Palma Monument, addressing the problems of the political reality in Suncheon and raising criticism against the political actions of National Assembly member So Byung-chul.

In particular, he strongly criticized issues such as the selection of the local committee secretary-general, the manipulation politics through aides in this local election, the treatment of senior veteran politicians, and the involvement of the National Assembly member’s spouse in the second half of the Suncheon City Council chairman election.

He also continued his criticism of false political acts and flip-flopping behavior, accusing the late Provincial Assembly member Kim Ki-tae of neglecting his promise as the local committee chairman during the provincial assembly chairman election.

Chairman Kim Young-deuk pointed out, “So Byung-chul, a former prosecutor who knows the law best, committed wrongful acts by unilaterally nominating candidates to suit his taste with flexible standards, strategically nominating two of his aides, and nominating candidates with records of corruption.”

He added, “So Byung-chul, who repeatedly promised reform nominations and clean politics, inflicted great wounds on citizens and party members in this local election.”

Chairman Kim said, “The Suncheon local committee showed no signs of communication and coexistence. With arrogance and dogmatism, he thoroughly betrayed comrades who sacrificed themselves for him.”

He concluded, “The Democratic Party is not So Byung-chul’s personal shrine. Stop hurting party members and citizens with prosecutorial power. If there is any political conscience left, isn’t it the duty of a National Assembly member to leave a fair and just political reform environment to the generation preparing for a new future of Suncheon?”
