[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jin-hyung Park] Progressive Party candidate for Gwangju mayor Kim Joo-eop and Gwangju Climate Crisis Emergency Action pledged to jointly respond to the climate crisis in Gwangju.

On the 19th at 2 p.m., candidate Kim and Gwangju Climate Crisis Emergency Action held a signing ceremony at Kim Joo-eop's campaign office and agreed on 11 policies aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions by more than 25% by 2025 compared to 2018 to address Gwangju's climate crisis, including ▲establishing an ecological transition education system ▲expanding the category of vulnerable groups and building a disaster preparedness adaptation system ▲achieving 100% carbon neutrality in public buildings by 2045 ▲creating 23,000 Gwangju-type climate jobs ▲restoring ecosystems such as Mudeungsan National Park and Jangnok Wetlands.

Candidate Kim said, “The climate crisis has already become a reality in our daily lives. Responding to the climate crisis should not merely be about avoiding the crisis or delaying it a little. It requires breaking the old framework and adopting a new future strategy.”

He continued, “So far, the Green New Deal by the government and Gwangju Metropolitan City has not held corporations, the real culprits of the climate crisis, accountable. Instead, it has entrusted the renewable energy industry to corporations and promoted it through privatization, bringing various privileges and profits only to the companies. The damage has solely fallen on workers, farmers, and citizens.”

He also emphasized, “In the process of responding to the climate crisis, we will strengthen social publicness, create quality jobs, and resolve inequality. We will carry out climate politics where Gwangju citizens, workers, and farmers take the lead in responding to the climate crisis.”
