[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 20th that it will accept applications for agreements to reduce rice cultivation area until the 31st of next month to induce the cultivation of other crops in paddy fields where rice was grown last year, thereby resolving the oversupply of rice and improving the self-sufficiency rate of food crops.

Applicants must be farmers or agricultural corporations registered as agricultural management entities.

If there are paddy fields where other crops such as soybeans are planned to be cultivated or left fallow on land where rice was grown last year, applicants can visit the local eup/myeon office to submit the agreement application form.

Farmers who fulfill the reduction agreement can receive an additional allocation of 150 bags of public stock rice per hectare according to the reduced area.

Furthermore, there are no restrictions on the types of other crops, and farmers who apply for the "Paddy Field Other Crop Cultivation Support Project," which provides subsidies for cultivating crops other than rice in paddy fields, can also apply concurrently.

A county official said, "We ask for active participation and cooperation from farmers, farmer organizations, the Nonghyup, and related institutions to ensure appropriate rice production and supply stabilization."
