[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Young-won] The International Virus and Bacteria Industry Expo (hereinafter ViBac 2022) will be held on July 18-19 this year at COEX in Samseong-dong, Seoul. ViBac 2022, held for the first time in Korea, will bring together companies related to viruses, bacteria, vaccines, bio, and microbiomes (a collective term for various microorganisms), which have emerged as future growth industries worldwide due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

ViBac 2022 was selected as a final winner in the first Seoul Exhibition Planning Contest in early 2020, before the spread of COVID-19, recognized as an expo with high future growth potential, but it had not been held until now due to the pandemic. ViBac 2022 will feature exhibition sections tailored to five fields: diagnosis and quarantine (diagnostic equipment, quarantine equipment, etc.), microorganism-utilized F&D (health functional foods such as probiotics), pharmaceuticals and bio (vaccines, microbial antibiotics, etc.), microbiomes (cosmetics), and R&D (including bio and genetic analysis equipment). Additionally, side events such as the International Microbiome Symposium and seminars prepared by organizations related to in vitro diagnostics, the Korea PR Association, and the Korean Health Communication Society are also planned.

Industry insiders expect this expo to establish itself as an international exchange platform for pioneering the global marketplace for new drugs, products, and devices related to viruses and bacteria, discovering new core domestic industries related to viruses and bacteria, increasing exports, and advancing the current status and development of domestic bio pharmaceutical technology.

This expo is co-hosted by KOICO (CEO Kim Seong-su), a professional overseas exhibition company, and The Wise (CEO Shin Dong-ho), an experiential marketing planning firm, under the vision of "Protecting human health against viruses" and "Contributing to human life alongside bacteria." It is supported by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, Asan City in Chungnam, Korea Health Industry Development Institute, Korean Hospital Association, Korea Pharmaceutical and Bio-Pharma Manufacturers Association, Korea Drug Importers and Exporters Association, Daegu Gyeongbuk Medical Innovation Foundation, Korea Global Pharmaceutical Industry Association, and Korea Beauty Industry Trade Association (KOBITA).

According to Makers Union, the organizer of this expo, over 80 companies have confirmed their participation or are in the process of doing so. The organizers expect about 10,000 buyers, visitors, and industry officials to participate during the expo period.
