On the 20th, the Central Disease Control Headquarters announced that as of midnight, the number of new confirmed cases increased by 111,319, bringing the total cumulative confirmed cases to 16,583,220.
The daily new cases have remained below 200,000 for eight consecutive days since the 13th (195,393 cases). On the 17th and 18th, the numbers dropped below 100,000, recording 92,991 and 47,743 cases respectively. The health authorities expect the number of confirmed cases to decrease from late May to around June.
The number of deaths yesterday was 166, an increase of 36 from the previous day (130). The cumulative death toll stands at 21,520, with a fatality rate of 0.13%.
The nationwide severe case bed occupancy rate is 43%, down 3.1 percentage points from the previous day (46.1%). The rates for the metropolitan area and non-metropolitan areas are 41.4% and 46.6%, respectively. The severe case bed occupancy rate in non-metropolitan areas has fallen into the 40% range for the first time since the daily reporting began on February 28.
Currently, the total number of patients under home treatment is 600,245, of which 52,276 are in the intensive management group receiving health care from medical institutions. On the 19th, 111,459 new patients were added to home treatment.
