In Car Accident Dispute Claims, Drivers Are Eight Times Out of Ten Saying "I Am the Victim"

[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] More than 80% of drivers who filed disputes to determine fault ratios after car accidents claimed that they were the victims.

The General Insurance Association announced on the 20th that this was revealed after analyzing the decision data from the 'Automobile Accident Fault Ratio Dispute Deliberation Committee.'

According to the association, 82.8% of the parties involved in the accidents who requested deliberation claimed they were the victims. Additionally, 55.7% of the parties believed they were not at fault.

Furthermore, 81.5% of the accident parties had different opinions regarding the cause of the accident.

Regarding major accident types, lane (path) change accidents accounted for the largest portion at 25.9% of the deliberation decisions. Accidents occurring at intersections without traffic signals accounted for 6.5%.

The association emphasized that drivers need to exercise particular caution when changing lanes.

The rate of agreement reached between accident parties by accepting the committee's deliberation decisions was 91.4% as of last year.
