[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Employees of General Motors (GM) Korea operations held a disability experience event on the 19th in observance of Disability Day. The event was organized by GM Able, a subgroup under the Diversity Committee of GM Korea operations (Korea GM·GM Technical Center Korea). According to the company, the event was designed to build a corporate culture that recognizes and embraces diversity by directly experiencing the inconveniences faced by people with disabilities in daily life.
The employees experienced challenging situations faced by people with disabilities in everyday life, such as walking with a white cane while blindfolded and boarding a vehicle from a wheelchair. Furthermore, based on these experiences, they plan to apply the insights to vehicle research and development to directly develop safety and convenience features that allow people with disabilities to drive more safely and comfortably. The GM Hanmaeum Foundation Korea donated 160 white canes to the Incheon Welfare Center for the Visually Impaired.
